RELIGION: 32.1 percent Protestant (including Pentecostal, evangelical, Full Gospel, Baptist, Anglican, Seventh-day Adventist, Presbyterian), 21.6 percent Catholic, 18.2 percent Hindu, 5 percent Muslim, 1.5 percent Jehovah’s Witness, 21.6 percent other, unspecified or none.

Few members remained after the base closed in 1967. Ralph Wharton corresponded with Trinidadians of Hindu background and traveled to the island to plant a church.

Churches of Christ gained exposure through the radio ministry of Bob Brown, who followed David McFalls in the early 1970s. Other campaign leaders were Glenn Buffington, Don Latham and Jerry Davidson.

Today the islands have 44 Churches of Christ.

THE TRINIDAD SCHOOL OF PREACHING began in 1974 in the meeting place of the San Fernando Church of Christ. Don Latham served as its first director. Missionary Parker Henderson directed the school for 30 years.

Minister Dominic Dos Santos, the school’s current director, began his tenure in 2017. In his years of ministry, Dos Santos has baptized numerous future preachers, including Brian Brooks.

The school has graduated more than 400 preachers and teachers who serve in congregations across the Caribbean and the U.S. Through its affiliation with Denver-based Bear Valley Bible Institute, the school offers degrees in Bible.
