As the summer months heat up, so do Vacation Bible Schools across the country — sometimes literally.
Members of the Brentwood Hills Church of Christ in Nashville, Tenn., set their building ablaze for “Spark,” a Vacation Bible School from the book of Daniel — including a singing King Nebuchadnezzar.
The Babylonian monarch, after building a gold statue of himself, demanded that all his subjects bow down to it — to the tune of Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero.”
It’s me. Hi. Everybody worship me. At harp time everybody on their knees. I’ll stare directly at myself for hours in the mirror. It is so exhausting being amazing Nebuchadnezzar.
When Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to bow, children watched as they went into the fiery furnace — and didn’t burn as an angel joined them.
Paper fires lined the walls of the building to emphasize the theme, said children’s minister Amy Bowman, who penned the lyrics to the song parody.
“We had someone want to have a funeral here this weekend,” she said. “Flames everywhere. They chose the funeral home.”
