Update: See video of a chorus from the Chilenje Church…
Welcome to Voices Only, your weekly dose of a cappella.
This week I went in search of a good version of “Be Still and Know” — the one that goes “Be still and know that I am God.” In the midst of my normal weekly chaos, I tend to repeat that lyric to myself … a lot.
I thought I had found a nice version of the song here, but I soon realized that this is a different song with the same name, sung by our friends at the Preston Road Church of Christ in Dallas for an album recorded back in the 1990s.
But it’s a great song nonetheless, with lyrics in English and Spanish. Sorry there’s no real video here. Close your eyes and listen.
My search also turned up a bunch of a cappella versions of “Be Still, My Soul,” a hymn from the 1800s originally written in German and set to the tune of “Finlandia,” a patriotic song celebrating the wonderfulness of Finland (not to be confused with this song about Finland).
Here’s a beautiful version of “Be Still, My Soul” performed by a group called Naturally 7 and shot in Switzerland, appropriately enough.
And here’s another version by Eclipse 6. We’ve featured this one before, but it’s definitely worth hearing again.
I never found the “Be Still” I was looking for. The search continues.
What’s your favorite a cappella song? Send us a video link and a short description of what the song means to you. We might use your selection in a future Voices Only.
