Voices Only: ‘Are You Washed in the Blood?’ ‘Standing on the Promises’ and a surprise birthday party

Welcome to Voices Only, your weekly roundup of spectacular a cappella.

We’ve featured Uganda-based Jehovah Shalom Acapella a couple of times (including their catchy tune about COVID-19 prevention, no joke) and they just keep producing great music and videos.

Plus, bow ties!

Enjoy this mash-up of E.A. Hoffman’s 1878 hymn “Are You Washed in the Blood” and Russell Kelso Carter’s “Standing on the Promises” (1886).

OK, so apparently two members of this group, Wasswa and Kato, are twins and they recently had a birthday. The rest of the group surprised them with a cake and did an amazing version of the “Happy Birthday” song. This is a long video of the surprise party, but I’ve got it cued to the point when they start singing.

Definitely worth a watch.

And enjoy some cake.
