The son of longtime preacher and missionary, Marvin Phillips, Alan grew up in Perth, Australia. He finished high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and obtained his B.S. in Business Administration at Oklahoma Christian University. He did graduate work at Oklahoma City University. Alan was awarded OC’s Business Alumnus of the Year in 1998.
Alan is retired from Oklahoma Christian University (www.oc.edu) where he served a total of 26 years, most recently as Chief Advancement & Alumni Relations Officer. Formerly he served as Vice President for Texas Operations. He established Phillips Consulting in 1994 to help faith-based nonprofit organizations. He led this venture for 15 years and served more than 30 nonprofits across the nation, offering executive coaching, fundraising consulting, strategic planning, and marketing services. Previous to re-joining the administration at Oklahoma Christian in 2012, Alan served as Vice President for Missions Resource Network, Bedford, Texas (www.mrnet.org), equipping church-planting mission teams for the South Pacific and leading various global missions initiatives. He now works part-time as stewardship officer with The Christian Chronicle.
Alan served as an elder with the Lake Cities Church of Christ in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, before moving back to Edmond, Oklahoma in 2017, where they are now members of the New Hope Church of Christ. Alan, and his wife, Donna, have been married 44 years. They have three grown children and a grandson. Their daughter, Kristi, is married to OC engineering Professor, Dr. Kevin Plumlee. Son, Jason, is a Lab Scientist at Medical City Hospital, Plano, Texas. Daughter, Anna, is married to OKC Fireman, Tyler Mills. She teaches 4th grade in Deer Creek Schools.
